How Retainer Clients Changed My Business and Created More Stability

Cozypreneur Episode 31

If you're tired of feeling like you're always chasing the next project or wondering where your next client will come from, you're not alone. In this episode of Cozypreneur, I'm sharing how shifting to retainer clients helped me create a more sustainable, less stressful business—and why it might work for you too.

The Problem With Project-to-Project Hustle

When I was relying mostly on big, two-month projects like Launch Renaissance, I was constantly stuck in a cycle of launching, delivering, and scrambling for the next client. It brought in good money... but it was exhausting. Retainers changed that by creating a steady baseline of income I could actually rely on.

Why I Moved Toward Retainers

After realizing that many of my project clients wanted to keep working with me long-term, I started offering ongoing support. Not only did it smooth out my revenue, but it also allowed me to build stronger, deeper client relationships without constantly being in hustle mode.

Shifting to Hourly Retainers (and Why It Works)

Instead of offering rigid packages, I moved toward hourly retainers—giving my clients the flexibility they needed and making it easier for me to manage my time inside ClickUp. Now, I offer two options: 10 or 20 hours a month, with strategy calls and GChat access as needed. This structure makes it simple, sustainable, and supportive on both sides.

The Client Experience That Actually Builds Trust

Hourly retainers let me adapt to what my clients need month-to-month, whether it’s email marketing, website copy updates, or even last-minute print materials for a conference. It’s a real partnership—clients know I’m here to help them move their business forward, and I’m proactive about communicating, setting expectations, and keeping projects moving.

Final Thoughts on Retainer Clients

Switching to a retainer model didn’t just help my business—it helped my mindset. Instead of constant panic about filling spots, I’m focused on deeper support, stronger partnerships, and growing sustainably. And honestly? It’s made my work a lot more fun too.

If you’re ready for more stability in your business—or you’re curious about working with me on a retainer—you know where to find me. Let's talk about how ongoing support could change your business too.
