Why I’m Stepping Back from Social Media Marketing (And Still Making Money)
Cozypreneur Episode 40
If you're wondering why my Instagram and Threads accounts have been quiet lately—or curious whether a business can survive without being glued to social platforms… keep reading.
My Social Media Reality Check
I’ve always been an introvert at heart – and never a big social media user. When I launched my business, I jumped onto social media to meet people and grow my network.
And while it did bring incredible relationships, collaborations, and clients, it also brought exhaustion, anxiety, and spiraled into comparison traps. I thought I had to be on social media until I got a good reminder from a business mentor: There are no rules or one way to do things.
Why Now? Someone Spilled the Tea
Reading Careless People by former Meta exec Sarah Wynne Williams was a turning point.
It revealed how profit-driven platforms de-prioritize user safety and truth so they can maximize profit. Add in Meta’s algorithmic influence over misinformation and lack of accountability… It felt like the right move for me.
What I’m Choosing Instead
I’m actively investing my time and energy where it feels good (and still helps my business profit):
Email marketing – I email a lot. It’s the best way to know what’s going on.
Podcast & SEO – It’s how new people find me.
Real conversations & community – Networking IRL or online has helped me build meaningful business relationships.
What This Means for You
You’re not missing out. You don’t need daily posts to have a business.
Values matter. Align your marketing with platforms that resonate with your values.
Quality > Quantity. Pick one or two communication methods and do them well.
You have to talk to people. Meaningful conversations build know, like and trust.
Social media isn’t the only way to run a business. Especially if it drains your mental well-being or goes against your values. There are no rules saying how you need to run a business.
If a platform doesn’t feel good for you, don’t do it. Switch to what fills your cup and builds your brand on your terms.
This is your permission to market in a way that feels good.
