Messaging in Marketing: The Gap Most People Miss

Cozypreneur Episode 45

You’ve nailed the problem. You’ve got the offer. But there’s a messaging gap most people skip.

If your messaging jumps straight from “Here’s what’s wrong” to “Here’s what I sell,” you’re missing the most powerful part of the conversation.

That space between pain and solution?
That’s where your expertise lives.

Most People Skip the Middle - Don’t

There’s this middle zone in messaging that’s often ignored. It's the part where you help your audience understand why they’re stuck. What’s keeping them from solving the problem on their own. Why the usual advice hasn’t worked.

That moment is gold. And when you skip it, you lose your best chance to build real trust.

This isn’t about rubbing salt in the wound or “agitating the pain.” It’s about helping people make sense of their struggle. With empathy. With insight. With a perspective only you have.

You’ve seen the patterns. You know what keeps people spinning. Say it out loud.

It’s not an Agitation

Let’s be real, the word “agitate” has been twisted. In the online space, it often sounds like:
Make them feel worse so they’ll buy from you.

That’s not what we’re doing here.

Instead of agitating, think of it as an assessment. Shine a light on what’s not working. Not to manipulate, but to help people name what they haven’t been able to articulate yet.

And that’s what positions you as the expert they trust.

How to Use the “Missing Middle” in Your Content

Try this approach in your next post, podcast, or sales page:

  • Name the problem. Let them know you see it.

  • Break down why they’re stuck. Identify the real reason things haven’t changed.

  • Offer a new lens. Help them see the situation differently.

  • Bridge the gap with your offer. Show how your work moves them forward.

This doesn’t require fake vulnerability or pressure tactics.

It just requires clarity and compassion — which, honestly, are in short supply.

Want Support With Messaging That Feels Good and Converts?

You don’t have to turn your feed into a feelings dump.

You’re allowed to be warm, honest, and relatable without handing over your entire life. And if you do want to share more personal things, that’s fine too. Just make sure you’re doing it because you want to — not because a post told you it’s the only way to connect.

You can build real relationships with people in ways that feel aligned. On Zoom. Over coffee. Through great work. It all counts.

Your personal brand is a reflection of who you are — but it is not your whole self.

Want Support With Your Message?

Inside Copy Classroom, you’ll get ongoing guidance, feedback, and strategy to make sure your content isn’t just “fine,” it’s working.
