How Strategic Partnerships Help Grow Your Biz with Ashley Mason

Cozypreneur Episode 18

Welcome back, Cozypreneurs! This week, I had the chance to chat with Ashley Mason, founder of Dash of Social and Massachusetts Business Network (MBN). Ashley’s entrepreneurial journey is proof that you can turn your passions into a thriving business, and her insights on collaboration and networking are pure gold for anyone looking to grow their brand while staying true to their values.

Dig into how Ashley built her businesses, why partnerships matter, and how stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to major growth—all while keeping things cozy, of course.

From Fashion Blogger to Marketing Pro

Ashley’s story started with a fashion and lifestyle blog. Back in 2012, she spent hours crafting content, only to have her family as readers (we’ve all been there, right?). But instead of giving up, she turned to social media to expand her reach and connect with her ideal audience.

That’s when it clicked: social media wasn’t just fun—it was a powerful tool for building a brand. She taught herself the ropes, became a micro-influencer, and eventually started offering pro bono social media services to businesses. By 2016, Dash of Social was born, and Ashley hasn’t looked back since.

The Birth of Massachusetts Business Network

Ashley’s second business, Massachusetts Business Network (MBN), was inspired by her love for small businesses and her desire to support them during the pandemic. With MBN, Ashley created a free-to-low-cost platform offering webinars, a blog, a directory, and even a podcast. It’s all about empowering local businesses with resources that help them thrive.

While the idea for MBN came in 2020, Ashley waited until 2022 to officially launch. Why? She didn’t want to rush. She wanted to make sure she had the time and energy to devote to the project, proving that thoughtful planning pays off.

Why Strategic Partnerships Matter

One of the gems from our conversation was Ashley’s take on building strategic partnerships. She explained that collaborating with businesses offering complementary services can boost your reach and provide your clients with even more value.

For example, Ashley, who focuses on social media management, partners with PR firms, web designers, and paid ad specialists. These partnerships allow her to offer well-rounded support to her clients while also gaining trusted referrals.

Ashley’s advice? Don’t be afraid to reach out. Introduce yourself, explain your services, and learn how you can support each other. It’s not just about getting referrals; it’s about creating a trusted network of professionals who elevate each other’s work.

Community Over Competition

Even in a competitive field like social media management, Ashley believes in the power of community over competition. Connecting with others in your industry isn’t just about referrals—it’s about sharing experiences, offering support, and learning from each other.

Whether it’s swapping advice, venting about tricky client situations, or celebrating wins, these relationships foster a sense of camaraderie that helps everyone grow. There’s enough room for all of us, and lifting others up doesn’t take away from your success.

Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

Ashley also opened up about the importance of stepping out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to networking. As an introvert, she admits that attending events can feel daunting. But those moments of discomfort often lead to valuable connections that wouldn’t happen otherwise.

Her mantra? “Get comfortable with the uncomfortable.” Whether it’s attending a local networking event or simply reaching out to someone new, pushing past those nerves can open doors to new opportunities and lasting relationships.

Creating a Cozy Work Vibe

Of course, no episode of The Cozypreneur Podcast would be complete without some cozy tips! Ashley shared how she’s been making her home office extra festive this holiday season:

  • Stringing Christmas lights around her desk.

  • Lighting a peppermint-scented candle.

  • Using seasonal desktop wallpapers to set the mood.

These little touches create a cozy and inviting space that helps her stay productive and in the zone—even during the darkest winter days.

Take the Next Step in Building Your Community

If you’re ready to expand your network, start small. Reach out to potential strategic partners, attend a virtual or in-person networking event, or simply engage with other entrepreneurs online.

And remember, building relationships isn’t just good for your business—it’s good for your soul. When you surround yourself with people who support and inspire you, success feels a lot cozier.

What’s one way you’re stepping out of your comfort zone to build connections? Let me know in the comments or slide into my DMs—I’d love to hear from you!
